My clients often describe feeling disconnected, dropping hobbies, having a hard time imagining the future, and isolating from others. They focus on what is going wrong in life, struggle to see the point in anything, and notice being pretty tough on themselves. If this resonates it might be time to start something new -let's commence!

Background

I have worked frontline roles in shelters, drop-in centres, supervised injection sites and crisis texting lines. These days I am supporting a community health centre as Clinical Lead and operate my own private practice. Before entering social work, I had previous careers in the restaurant industry and human resources. My community and volunteer work has been focused on activism and peer education around sexual health, gender, and sexuality.

Your therapeutic experience with me

You can take comfort in knowing that my approach will always leave us with more than enough to explore. My clients tell me I am approachable, non-judgmental, and fun. My goal is to offer you a safe and supportive place where we can begin to understand your life experiences and how you have learned to cope. I like to infuse humour, challenging questions, and encouragement where appropriate. Depending on the approach we choose, homework may be part of our work together in order to keep you engaged between sessions. My hope is to help you get closer the version of the person you want to be.

Therapeutic approaches

These are the approaches at the heart of my work, and I use them often because they help create meaningful change:

rating

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR helps reduce the emotional charge and distress of traumatic memories. It allows people to no longer feel like their emotions, thoughts or behaviours are controlled by distressing memories.

rating

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is considered the "gold standard" for evidence based care. It helps people challenge their thoughts and encourages try new behaviours through experiments and exposures.

I also draw on other evidence based approaches that can gently support you when they align with what you need:
