Background

After spending 6 years working overseas doing community development work in Central Asia and Indonesia my wife and I decided to return to Canada. I started a business that was marginally successful and then decided that a career change was in order so I went back to university in my 40s to get my Master of Social Work degree at Western University in London, Ontario. As the child of a dairy farmer my rural roots run deep and I love living in rural Huron County, puttering in my yard, and camping and hiking with my family.

Your session with me will be very casual and conversational. My clients often tell me that I am very easy to talk with and they feel very comfortable. I love when my clients give me feedback that helps me become a better therapist (yes, I have flaws!). And I love it when clients tell me what they need from me to make it a better experience for them.

Person-centered Approach

Each person is a unique individual and I work with each client to learn to understand who they are, their desires, and their values and goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Clients learn to control their thoughts and behaviours to help regulate their emotions.

Together we seek to understand how oppressive systems and structures are affecting the client and steps that the client can take to minimize the effects of oppression.

FAQ

What can I expect in our first meeting?

The first meeting is typically intended for you to share with me as much detail as you feel comfortable with about why you are seeking help. Then we will explore how I can help and come up with a loose plan for how we will proceed.

What will this cost?

My regular fees are $150 for individual sessions (around 50 minutes), and $175 for couples and families. Many people have coverage through work that they can access to cover part or all of the fees. I also offer a sliding scale for people who don't have benefits, and cannot afford my regular fees. I hate that money is a barrier to people getting the help that they need and so I do what I can to eliminate that barrier. Talk to me about what you need to make it work for you. I am very flexible!

How do I pay you?

Most clients pay me directly by e-transfer. I also accept cash and cheques. I do not accept credit or debit cards at this time. If none of those options work, or you have another preferred way to pay, don't hesitate to ask!

How often will I need to see you?

This is entirely up to you! Some clients see me every week for long periods of time, others come once or twice and then only every few months as needed.
